We actually slowed a tiny bit over the weekend and I am suspecting either a dearth of work units or folks using their computers for more important things like playing Castle Wolfenstein, or whatever, but we are back on track now with more CPUs and 904k points per hour overnight. Great work!

My laptop did just one work unit yesterday but it was something like 300k which was a real workout for it.

I’ve dialed back how much the computer in my office runs as it’s essentially summer here and since I’m working from home an 80 degree office is very unpleasant.

So I’m going to slide back down towards 1-1.5 oppoflops per day for a while as it continues to heat up.

Got both cards running quietly now. 1070 and 2060s.

I have a spare rig in the garage with 2 open slots but the prices on craigslist for used gear are going up? It almost makes sense to just go buy a 1660 super instead of a 1070. Same with ebay,

Yea used gear is not cheap right now, best to wait until the 3000 series drops and some good deals on 1070s/1080s will be had I think.

my puter is taking a break today...mostly coz its warm today..but also coz its in the living room and pretty loud at time...ill probably let it run for a few hours later when things cool down and i have the room to meself

True, however I’m very interested in the efficiencey and price of a 3060. the 2060 founders is the absolute perfect folding card for the money. best PPD/watt so it costs the least to run and the price divided into that. well, just cant beat it.

problem is laying out the buy-in. So yes 3k stuff is the deal. Also have to see if I still have a job by then. If so then Christmas will be friggin fantastic.

It is currently 79.6 in my office. It’s 72.7 in the living room.

This is only a couple of degrees higher than what it was before I started folding. Servers can put out some serious heat.

At least t he humidity is low inside the house and the fan I have circulating the air is keeping me fairly comfortable. If this were outside where the humidity is 80% or higher most of the time, I would be miserable.

Also, if it’s too much noise or head, consider closing the CPU folding slot and just letting the GPU work. CPU is very inefficient compared to the GPU and makes like 10% of the points.

its off and much quieter than it was before...but even so its still a very noticeable pressence in the room when its going full whack

These are both VMs running on a server. The only slots available are C PU. I have four CPUs assigned to each of the boxes.

I picked up project cars 2 and Snowrunner this weekend, which meant a lot of virtual driving was going on instead of folding. When not folding, I can confirm my new speedy 1440p monitor, 5700x and Ryzen 3900x combo absolutely rocks for high r- efresh 1440p gaming.

My servers go in the basement for this exact reason. I had just been keeping my window open and a fan on to keep it reasonable, but I live in an old house with thoroughly meh central air so an office with a RX 5700X cranking in it plus a couple monitors, work laptop and such gets toasty!

Yeah - you were nipping at my heels likely to overtake me shortly anyway and summer basically hit in St Louis this weekend (nearly 90 on Saturday).  I’ll likely be running my workstation overnight and occasionally during the day as we get a cool day here and there.

 Would that server box be large enough to accommodate one of these big GPUs? Might be worth just buying one of those and sticking it in a box and letting it run. Even one that's not all that new is very efficient. A GTX 580 is 100 bucks.

I did a little digging. The server is spec’d to have a PCI riser, but it’s two x8 slots. There’s a board out there that combines both into a single x16 slot, but I can’t find one in stock anywhere. If I do find find one, the prices are fairly high.

That leaves me looking at x8 GPUs. To be honest, I haven’t looked at GPUs since the mid-’90s, so I have no idea what’s decent and what’s not.

Any recommendations?

I wasn’t thinking it would happen until after I got my 2080 Ti, I was getting a good deal on it, but the guy backed out and reposted it for more. Guess he didn’t know about the 3000 series cards most likely being announced soon.

Ouch - that always stinks.  But yeah with the next gen cards from both AMD and Nvidia on the horizon it makes me unwilling to shell out MSRP for a current gen card.

5th place tonight....was a fun fight. MX-5 for the prize.

Mid May is the Graphics develpm ent conference and team green shou ld announce their details on the next stuff. Then fall will be the big buy in. Look for lots of 2060's on ebay/craigslist.
